A judges gavel on a table signifying a Court decision

The Ministry of Justice has published new statistics relating to Employment Tribunals. As expected, the number of claims has risen since the abolishment of fees.

Figures for April to June 2018 show that the number of claims increased by 165% compared to the same period in 2017 when fees were in place.

The proportion of backlogged claims has also risen by 130% compared to the same quarter of 2017. This has meant a recruitment drive for HM Courts and Tribunal in order get more judges in to deal with claims.

£10 million in fees over 12,400 claims have been refunded to date.
