During 2012, Chesterfield law firm BRM Solicitors chose The British Heart Foundation as their charity of the year, to raise money for their Mending Broken Hearts appeal.
Co-ordinated by company commercial solicitor Anna Cattee, BRM’s fundraising campaign aimed to raise £10,000 in memory of Anna’s father and former BRM Managing Partner, Mike MacDonald. Mike passed away in 2009 after a long battle with congenital heart disease.
Throughout 2012, staff, friends, family, colleagues and clients took part in numerous fundraising activities ranging from cake sales in the office and a pub quiz, right up to more ambitious events such as a charity ball, 3 peaks challenge and a Land’s End to John O’Groats cycle ride.
Now having received all pledged donations, thanks to the remarkable efforts of everyone involved BRM are delighted to report that they have far exceeded their original goal, raising an amazing £17,001.01 for the BHF.
Anna Cattee said:
“I wish to thank everyone who helped to raise this staggering amount in memory of Mike MacDonald.
Whether you sponsored or took part in an event, donated money or prizes, or undertook physical challenges (in particular Tom and Ben Rice whose cycle ride raised over £3,500) whatever your involvement was, with your support we were able to help The British Heart Foundation continue their pioneering research into beating heart disease”.
Sophie Jardine, BHF Fundraising Manager in Derbyshire, said:
“On behalf of all the heart patients who will benefit from this incredible donation, I would like to sincerely thank all the staff, clients and friends of BRM Solicitors for their wonderful support. The money was raised in aid of our Mending Broken Hearts Appeal which is one of our most ambitious projects ever. Its goal is simple – to fund the research that could begin to literally ‘mend broken hearts’.
“We do rely on donations, fundraising events and charity of the year partnerships to enable us to continue with our pioneering, vital research, and this really is an outstanding achievement. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
